Layout

The layout on the overall design was done very neat and precise. Anyone can see that there was planning involved. Their designs is good and I think that is how they attract their customers because of the visual impact, its effective and makes you a little curious to see what is inside.

Use of Type

I think the Type they used works really well with the layout of the cover. The white Typeface on the pattern background makes it stand out more which I think was a clever choice to do.

I do not think that the design type right at the top that was cut off half gives a negative impact on the design, its creative and something different from any other magazines which makes it memorable.

Content

Their content structure is also neat and clear, they used text-alignment to make everything work together. The content also sometimes consist of images that are manipulated with the use of a computer to make it more creative and interesting to complement the layout.

Style

If you take a look at one of the design Indaba magazine covers, one can almost say its cultural inspired with the use of traditional patterns and sculptures etc. as well as a little taste of everything else. Its modern, and innovative as well as inspiring.

Market

I would say their target market is everyone who needs inspiration and new ideas.

10 Contemporary logos that reflects ITS principles and style.

Hi bloggers!!. So this is my first exercise for History of Graphic Design 3. I basically had to search for 10 contemporary logo's which reflects the principle and style of ITS( International Typographic Style), and then I have to choose 5 where I explain why I think they attract my attention.

So this is what I came up with..

International typographic Style(ITS)

The style was developed in the 1950's in Switzerland with characteristics that include the use of a asymmetrical organisation on  mathematical constructed grid to achieve a unity of design, objective photography which communicates visual as well as verbal information in a clear factual and concise manner. It also includes the use of San-serif typography that is based on a flush-left and ragged-right margin configuration.

10 logo's I got

5 Logos I picked

1.
I personally like this logo because of it's simplicity and the use of the colours red and yellow, works well together. I think it is well constructed and the logo portrays what its trying to communicate with the audience as for example the letter 'M', almost look like fried chips which means fast foods. In this sense that it makes the objective of the logo strong and appealing. The use of negative space with the white typography breaks down the colours, almost like giving life to the logo to make it visually attractive

2.
What I like about this logo is the bright yellow on the white background which makes it striking, that makes it easily readable. I also like the use of geometric shapes that was used to create the letter 'b'. The overall design is done quite simple, even though its not one design as a whole I still think it forms a unity.

3.

Ok, so this was absolutely my favourite because of its concept.  I think the type works well with the use of geometric shapes to form a suit, it was carefully planned. The shapes used, tells the audience what the logo is about, what its communicating and the overall objective of it which makes it striking. The use of black san-serif font finishes the logo off very well

4.
I like this logo because of its neatness, readability and the use of contrasting colours to create positive and negative space. I think it gives a different feel to the logo because its not random, its uniquely different to all the other logos. The use of geometric shapes also grid-based makes the letters readable which makes it a unity of design even though they are on separate shapes. The overall design is very simple but everything works perfectly together.
  5.
What I like about this logo is the playful use of shapes/circles which makes the logo more vibrant and funky. I think it also softens the logo otherwise it would have been to harsh and dull with just the black font. I would say its grid-based organised, it's a simple design but I do think its objective is strong because the different colour circles could portray the different multiple dimensions or departments of what its trying to present.
